BlytheRay Hosts AOW Events and an Energy Dinner

Africa Oil Week 2023

In October 2023, the BlytheRay team flew to Cape Town to host and attend fringe events around the Africa Oil Week conference. The conference brings together governments, regulators, global operators, power producers, investors and service providers, with a large cohort from London in attendance.

BR, along with its co-hosts Crowe UK, SP Angel, and Watson Farley & Williams, kickstarted the week with a drinks reception on the Sunday evening at the Life Grand Cafe. The evening involved catching up with old friends, making new friends, and drinks and nibbles as the sun set over the V&A Waterfront.

The following day, BlytheRay, Strand Hanson and Gneiss Energy, hosted a number of clients and colleagues for lunch at the Bailey, in a more intimate event than the night before.

The events were a success and brought together a community of people all joined by a common interest of developing Africa’s energy industry to support the continent’s growth and aide in global energy security.

Energy Dinner in London with Guest Speaker, Neil Atkinson

Once the team returned to London, BlytheRay, along with co-hosts Gowling WLG, Strand Hanson and Crowe UK, hosted an Energy Dinner at the Reform Club in London. A well-attended event of executives, from across the energy industry, was rounded off by an excellent speech from guest speaker, Neil Atkinson, former Head of Oil Industry and Markets Division at the International Energy Agency.

In his speech, Neil outlined the continuing need for hydrocarbons, and how only small steps have been taken by governments in the efforts towards transitioning away from fossil fuels. Neil took questions from around the table on topics such as nuclear energy and hydrogen, sparking some interesting debates and discussions.
